Comparing voting methods: 2016 US presidential election

This paper presents data from a survey leading up to the 2016 US presidential elections. Participants were asked their opinions about candidates and also vote according three alternative voting rules, in addition plurality: approval voting, range instant runoff voting. The participants split into two groups, one facing set of four (Clinton, Trump, Johnson, Stein) other nine (the previous plus Sanders, Cruz, McMullin, Bloomberg, Castle). studies issues: (1) How do voters use these rules? (2) What kinds candidates, terms individual preferences, are favored by which rule? (3) Which rules empirically satisfy independence eliminated alternatives? Our results provide evidence that, all standard criteria computed on be there utilitarian or Condorcet type, same candidate (Sanders) wins. Evaluative such as might lead this outcome, contrary direct plurality (that elects Clinton) official rule elected Trump).
